Planned Giving
Monica Burkhardt
Looking up at the night sky in her backyard one summer evening in 2001, Monica wondered which constellation seemed especially bright that evening. Later that week as she searched for a star map to explain the stars above, a gentleman at her local bookstore saw her perplexed expression and said, "It's kind of overwhelming isn't it? You know a great resource is the Denver Museum of Nature & Science." Speaking with another friend, who happened to be a volunteer at the Museum, she got ahold of a schedule of upcoming classes, lectures, and events. Monica found an astronomy event in beautiful Estes Park featuring Museum scientists, professors from local universities, and the chance to view the night sky through telescopes. She was hooked.
Monica's enthusiasm for the Museum continues today. She values the manner in which the Museum provides an "opportunity for adults and children to expand their interests, see what there is left to learn, and what careers there are to pursue." Monica believes that the Museum is an important resource to the community and to honor the institution, Monica has chosen to name the Museum as a beneficiary of a retirement account and has joined the Edwin Carter Legacy Society. This generous gift will ensure that the Museum can continue to be a catalyst and ignite the community's passion for nature and science, just as it did for Monica.
