A True Commitment to the Museum

Bonnie

Bonnie Downing’s love for the Denver Museum of Nature & Science began in the 1970s.

From Visitor to Staffperson to Volunteer

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science has been a major part of Bonnie Downing's life since the 1970s. Bonnie first began visiting with her young family when dinosaurs and butterflies excited her children and provided a great educational experience. It was then that her love for the Museum began.

When the opportunity presented itself a few years later, Bonnie joined the Museum's Development Division and her passion flourished. From visiting Lockheed Martin's facilities during the creation of Space Odyssey to visiting the Sweet Home Mine and the exact pocket where the Museum's rhodochrosite was discovered, she was constantly exposed to new and exciting things, always learning.

As part of this journey, Bonnie and her family became Giving Club members to support the incredible research, programs and visitor experiences that the Museum provides to the community. Since retirement, Bonnie has volunteered at the Museum, engaging with guests in Expedition Health and working in the Archives Department. Her commitment has truly followed her through all of life's stages.

Bonnie chose to become a member of the Edwin Carter Legacy Society and purchased a charitable gift annuity as two ways to further her support of the Museum. This gift option benefits the Museum while Bonnie receives fixed payments for life. She was also drawn to this option as a facet of her retirement planning because the funds are kept and managed by the DMNS Foundation. Upon death, the remaining balance will be transferred directly to the DMNS Foundation and provide enduring support for the Museum's mission.

Through a charitable gift annuity, Bonnie has provided the Museum with the ability to continue to offer "enriching experiences for guests and families," which initially drew her to the organization.
